What does Aletheia mean?

Aletheia is variously translated as “unconcealedness”, “disclosure”, “revealing”, or “unclosedness”. The literal meaning of the word ἀ–λήθεια is “the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident.” It also means factuality or reality. It is the antonym of lethe, which literally means “oblivion”, “forgetfulness”, or “concealment” according to Pindar’s First Olympian Ode. It derives from ‘alethus’ which means ‘true’, literally ‘not concealing’ from privative prefix a- ‘not’ + ‘lethe’ (‘forgetfulness’, ‘oblivion’). It is “the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident” and it also implies sincerity, as well as factuality or reality. As such, aletheia can be translated also as ‘remembering’. Its gender is feminine. It is pronounced ‘al-e-THEE-a’.
